SIM² KU Leuven’s Guide to Open Access

Since the launch of Horizon 2020 the European Commission has been highlighting the importance of Open Access publishing, which in fact has become a formal requirement in EU projects. Open Access publishing implies that all peer-reviewed scientific publications resulting from a Horizon 2020 project should be deposited in open-access repositories, such as e.g. the OpenAIRE-compliant Lirias repository of KU Leuven (https://lirias.kuleuven.be/), which ranks among the top-50 institutional repositories worldwide.

For Beneficiaries without access to an OpenAIRE-compliant system, the European Commission has developed the Zenodo platform. Publications deposited in Zenodo can subsequently be linked to the relevant EU project in OpenAIRE. To help its Partners in EU Horizon 2020 projects, SIM² KU Leuven has developed a clear, step-by-step Open Access flow diagram to deal with the Open Access requirements.

A more comprehensive Open Access presentation can be found here. It explains the principles and implements them for typical EU Horizon 2020 project (REMAGHIC and METGROW+ here).
