SIM² 8th General Assembly Meeting - Dec 4, 2024

Location: Faculty Club, Groot Begijnhof 14, 3000 Leuven.

    During the General Assembly, we will be hosting a parallel table session focused on exploring different funding opportunities. The goal is to brainstorm potential project submissions from SIM². Please indicate your first preference for the parallel table session. Note that participants will rotate between tables three times, allowing for discussions at up to three different tables.
  • Table 1: Materinex
    • Discussion topics: potential projects within the "Materials for Battery Technologies," "Strategic and Critical Raw Materials," and "Materials for Building and Construction" roadmaps by Materinex. Materinex
    • Project types: feasibility studies, SBO, ICON. Pre-application deadline: 15/01/2025.

    Key focus areas:

    Battery Technologies: Development of batteries with improved safety, performance, reduced environmental impact, and lower reliance on critical raw materials (CRM).

    Critical Raw Materials (CRM): Advancement of cost-effective, safe, and sustainable processes for local CRM production in Flanders, including sorting, dismantling, pre-processing, extraction, and recycling.

    Building and Construction Materials: Emphasis on sustainable building practices, reducing CO2 footprints, and efficient raw material use.

    Table 2: Collaboration with Latin America and Africa
    • Exploring collaboration opportunities in the critical raw materials sector with partners in Latin America and Africa.
    • Discussion of less familiar funding schemes, such as Global Gateway funding (EIB, CAF, AFD), ENABEL, VLIR-UOS, and others.

    Table 3: EIT Raw Materials
    • Overview of the KAVA 13 call for upscaling projects and the RIS scheme by EIT Raw Materials. EIT Raw Materials
    • Project topics: responsible sourcing, sustainable materials, and circular societies. • We will explore eligibility and the potential for scaling up your technologies.

    Table 4: Horizon Europe
    • Discussion of Cl4 and Cl5 calls under Horizon Europe 2025, focusing on relevant project submission opportunities.
