Our future is one of wind turbines, rechargeable batteries and cars that no longer emit CO2. But for this whole revolution, we need an awful lot of raw materials, which are not just there for the taking. Today, the International Energy Agency is holding its first global conference on this issue, in Paris. Karel Van Acker is Professor of Circular Economy and Sustainable Materials Management at KU Leuven. He outlines the situation and explains what will be discussed.
