Project

  • Develop innovative thermodynamic models for the solvent extraction of metals and acids, using available software packages such as OLI Systems and HSC Chemistry
  • Determine thermodynamic interaction parameters and standard state values from data regressions
  • Collect literature and experiments data: these include calorimetric, activity, solubility and solvent extraction data
  • Perform high-quality scientific reporting and dissemination of the scientific and technological results. This task includes publishing high-impact scientific papers, and presenting results during SOLVOMET KU Leuven meetings, project events and international conferences
  • Discuss results, methods, and problems with your mentor and supervisor to devise and update your strategy towards a successful PhD
  • Collaborate with the SOLVOMET team and its partners to devise solutions for the broader context of a circular economy
  • Train your soft skills by performing teaching tasks, guiding master thesis students, and attending courses/workshops
Profile
  • A master’s degree in science or engineering
  • Strong interest in thermodynamics of electrolyte solutions and modelling
  • Experience with the construction of thermodynamic models or programming is a plus
  • Knowledge of coordination chemistry, colloidal systems, or solvent extractions Strong problem-solving skills
  • Able to communicate complex results in a clear and precise manner with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative and international environment
  • Creative and self-motivated
  • Committed to achieve objectives and overcoming obstacles
  • Able to organise and prioritise own workload
  • Commitment to safe working practices and departmental procedures
  • Fluent in English
