Clausthal University of Technology is a research-focused university with outstanding national and in-ternational networking. The approximately 4,000 students and more than 1,200 employees enjoy short commutes, personal interaction, and the diverse landscape of the Upper Harz region in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Harz Mountains. Clausthal University of Technology is the most significant economic factor and the largest employer in the region, offering cultural diver-sity and internationalism. Here, science works closely with business and industry, bridging the gap between basic research and application in a strategic focus on the Circular Economy. With this uni-versity-wide concept for the future, our research aims to contribute to the development of a sustaina-ble industrial society in the digital age. The close link between material and process knowledge as well as the expertise in digitization facilitate a significant contribution to the implementation of the Cir-cular Economy.

We expect the incumbent to cooperate intensely within the Institute of Mineral and Waste Pro-cessing, Waste Disposal, and Geomechanics (IFAD) and in particular with our four Circular Economy research fields.

The incumbent will conduct research in the field of Hydrometallurgical Treatment Processes for pri-mary and secondary raw materials. The emphasis of the future research to be conducted should be on one or, preferably, several of the following topics in circular economy:

The applicant has to have relevant research experience in at least one of these areas. She/he should also have experience in cooperation in interdisciplinary projects in the field of application-oriented basic research.

As part of the teaching, the applicant will have to draw up and hold lectures and tutorials in the field of hydrometallurgy and will also be involved in internationally oriented degree programs. Willingness for participation in the academic self-management is taken for granted.

Close cooperation with the professorship for Raw Material Processing and Recycling at the IFAD as well as other professorships at the Clausthal University of Technology, especially in the TU Cluster Recycling is expected. The Clausthal University of Technology is a member of the recycling cluster for economically strategic metals, REWIMET, the German ResearchNetwork Raw Materials GERRI, and the European knowledge and innovation network EIT RawMaterials. Participation and coopera-tion in these networks as well as with other research partners is required.

The requirements for the appointment (§ 30 Lower Saxony university regulations (NHG)) include a university degree, pedagogical and didactical aptitude, a particular ability for in-depth independent academic work, usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of the doctorate thesis. Details will be discussed upon request. The announcement addresses scientists at an early career stage.

University Professors with a salary scale W1 NBesO (assistant professors) will be employed for 3 years according to § 30 Abs. 4 NHG. After a positive evaluation of this first phase this employment can be prolongated further on up to 3 years. A positive evaluation after this second period will lead (on tenure track) to a permanent employment at the level of W3 NBesO (full professor).

Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects or corresponding industrial experience is expected.

The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite. Strong commitment to teach-ing is expected.
