The Flemish Government recently approved the set up of a new policy research centre “Sustainable Materials Management in a Circular Economy (CE)” in the framework of Flanders’ CE ambitions. The centre will perform policy research in order to monitor the progress of the Flemish region to a Circular Economy, to frame Flanders’ CE actions in international policy and to study the effects on economy and environment of different policy measures to stimulate CE. The centre will create a solid and scientific basis for the regional CE action plan. The centre is a collaboration between KU Leuven, UGent, UA and VITO, and will be led by prof. Karel Van Acker (SIM² KU Leuven Leader RL4).
