New project for SIM² within Una Europa
SIM² researchers have secured Una Europa seed funding (2024 call) for the project “European Network for Sustainable Mining Research and Transfer” (EnSMiRT). Led by Prof. Ignacio Zapico from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, this initiative aims to establish a dedicated research group within the Una Europa alliance, focusing on sustainable mineral production and ecosystem restoration during and after mining activities.
EnSMiRT project has started in January 2025 and will end in March 2026. Participating institutions: Complutense University of Madrid, KU Leuven, University of Bologna and Leiden University. EnSMiRT brings together experts from across the mining life cycle, including public policy, exploration, extraction, and rehabilitation. Currently, the SIM² team involved in the project includes:

Una Europa Seed Funding Call 2025
The Una Europa Seed Funding Call 2025 is now open, with two key areas of interest for SIM² researchers “Future Materials and Technologies” and “Sustainability”. Those interested must submit their expression of interest by 27 March 2025, with the final application deadline set for 18 June 2025.
