The GDMB provides the framework for experts to discuss the challenges of their industry and develop solutions for economy, environment and society. It is host of numerous high-level expert committees, dedicated metallurgical workshops and company excursions, and publishes association’s journals to disseminate news to its stakeholders inside and outside the association. GDMB’s flagship is the biennial European conference for non-ferrous metallurgists – the EMC.
Düsseldorf / Germany is the capital of North Rhein-Westphalia, a middle-western county of Germany with more than 600,000 inhabitants. It belongs to the Top-5 regional economic centers of Germany, is home of several stock-listed companies and famous for its art collections. More than 58,000 students attend one of Düsseldorf’s 22 Universities. Life and work of the region’s inhabitants used to be closely linked to mining. Hoisting towers of old coal pits remind of intensive exploitation activities in the area and are preserved to visitors to get an impression on how it used to be.
