26th International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium

September 28, 2026 - September 30, 2026
26th International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium

2026 will be the 26th edition of IBS, and the last before this venerable symposium series hits the big 5-0 – marking nearly five decades of the IBS family.

We at BRGM have the honour of hosting IBS 2026 in Orléans the 28th – 30th September. All the details can be found on the IBS2026 website: https://ibs2026.biohydromet.net/

Abstract submission is open until the 15th of January – please download the template and submit your abstracts here: https://ibs2026.biohydromet.net/abstracts/

A novelty this edition will be a specific section dedicated to Biomining Start-ups – there is a real excitement and energy around start-up companies in the biomining space, and we would very much welcome your involvement. Please see the website or get in touch to see how your start-up can participate in IBS 2026, with a package that includes a pitch to delegates, shared stand and dedicated space on the website and conference material.

Sponsorship opportunities (non-exhaustive) can be found here: https://ibs2026.biohydromet.net/sponsorship/ IBS 2026 offers a way for organisations to actively support the international biohydrometallurgy community and to engage directly with expert researchers, industry practitioners and the new generation of biomining innovators. The introduction of the new Biomining Start-up section also brings additional visibility to innovation-focused participants—a good match for sponsors wishing to align with emerging technologies and contribute to the development of the field.

If your organisation would like to contribute to the success of IBS 2026, we would be very happy to discuss – please get in touch.

IBS2026 will have a particular focus on industrial application of biohydrometallurgy, with a planned industry round table.

Topics covered during IBS 2026 include:

  • Development and Application of Biomining processes
  • Bioprocessing of mining wastes and secondary resources
  • Fundamental studies of Biomining (bioleaching, bio-oxidation, bioflotation, etc)
  • Microbiology (microbial ecology, biogeochemistry, biochemistry) of biomining systems, mine wastes and mine-impacted environments
  • Bioremediation and Biostabilisation of mine wastes
  • Bioremediation and valorisation of Mine-Impacted Waters (AMD/ARD)
  • Bioprocessing, Industrial Ecology and the Circular Economy in Mining and Minerals Processing
