Belgium-Kazakhstan Critical Minerals Seminar

On the occasion of the Belgian State Visit to Kazakhstan, SIM² KU Leuven is organising the Belgium-Kazakhstan Critical Minerals Seminar, co-organised by Nazarbayev University and supported by the Ministry of Industry and Construction and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The seminar will bring together representatives from industry, academia, research organisations and government from both countries.

Belgium and Kazakhstan have highly complementary strengths in the critical minerals value chain. Belgium brings strong expertise in processing, refining and recycling, while Kazakhstan combines extensive mineral resources with ambitions to further develop midstream processing. This creates a strong basis for concrete industrial and R&D partnerships.

The seminar will focus on turning this complementarity into concrete industrial and R&D cooperation, with particular attention to:

• Industrial partnerships and investment opportunities
• Joint R&D addressing concrete industrial needs
• Technology and knowledge transfer
• Funding opportunities for joint Belgian-Kazakh R&D and industrial projects

The programme will combine keynote presentations, industrial and academic panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
